Sumatra
Our Sumatra coffee is a coffee of depth, weight, and shadow. Sourced from Aceh, Takengon through the Koperasi Baitul Qiradh Baburrayyan cooperative, this origin carries the darker, more mysterious character that Devil’s Lantern Coffee Co. wears so well. In the cup, expect medium acidity and a syrupy body layered with dark chocolate, dried fruit, earthy richness, and a long, lingering finish that settles in slowly and stays with intention. It is a coffee that feels grounded and elemental, full of texture and quiet force rather than brightness or flash.
Grown at elevations of 1100 to 1600 meters and processed using Giling Basah, or wet-hulling, this coffee develops the distinctive body and earthy depth for which Sumatra is known. Varietals including Tim Tim, Typica, Ateng, Onan Ganjang, and Jember add nuance to its structure, creating a cup that feels dense, velvety, and almost ceremonial. Our Sumatra coffee is made for slower hours, dim rooms, and those who prefer their coffee with gravity, richness, and a darker kind of elegance.
